My radio interview about overcoming MS may interest people

By George Jelinek Thursday, May 13, 2010

I was interviewed on Tuesday on ABC radio in Melbourne Australia on the Conversation Hour about MS. The host, Jon Faine, who usually asks some tough questions and is not easily convinced without evidence, was very keen to get the message out to people about the potential of diet, and other lifestyle changes, in the management of MS. Hear the whole interview at http://www.abc.net.au/local/audio/2010/05/11/2896457.htm?site=melbourne&microsite=faine&section=latest

I have read and re-read Dr Swank and the MS Recovery Diet (I swear) many times.  Every, EVERY time I only hear (read about) what I must do without or GIVE up in order to manage my MS.  Now I DO try to restrict my diet by not doing red meat or processed meat at all.  I don't do diary and have cut back on sugar.  I AM frustrated because I don't know what I'm supposed to eat.  I need to successfully substitute ALL of that stuff I grew up eating and love....I haven't been able to do it.  I really. really would like to see some suggested menus or even single dishes (entres).  I would welcome suggestions from you or anyone reading this.  I just can't eat anymore stir fry

Pardon my rant

Hi Helen

The approach to nutrition I am talking about is not about restriction or being strict, etc, it is about changing habits. Some people find changing habits hard, but they are only habits. I remember when I used to have a teaspoon of sugar in my coffee; I just couldn't drink it without sugar. Then I stopped putting the sugar in and now I can't drink it with sugar, it tastes terrible. That is what habits are... it is just what you are used to; when you get used to a new one, you realise that the old one was just that. Now for example, I can't bear the smell or sight of cooked meat; dairy products taste absolutely awful. It is just a new way of eating, and after a while, you can't go back. Try my website for recipes at http://www.takingcontrolofmultiplesclerosis.org/index.php?mode=Recipes. And the other parts of the program are just as important as the diet, ie vitamin D, etc. I wish you health and happiness.

 Be well

 George
