white matter lesions in my brain
julie
Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 11:07 PMCan you tell me if I could have MS. I will be seeing a nuerologist in a couple of weeks. An MRI scan of my brain showed Multiple High Intensity White Matter Lesions. My doctor said this could indicate MS, but I need to see the nuerologist. What do you think? Thank you. Julie

Your neurologist is the best person to make a diagnosis, with all the information on hand. This MRI pattern is commonly seen with multiple sclerosis, but he or she will probably want to do more tests. It is helpful to know the diagnosis early, if it is MS, as you can do something about it quickly, and hopefully stay well.
Best wishes

May I ask with what this MRI has revealed, which is multiple white matter lesions as I stated, do you feel my odds are leaning toward having MS. I am a strong person and can handle anything, but I would like to be prepared when I go to see the nuerologist. Is it normal for a 43 yr. old woman to have "High Intensity Multiple White Matter Lesions" in the brain? I have read it is not. I will wait on your response. I do apprecaite your insight. Thank you so very much. Julie
