I have decided not to think about the fact that I have MS.  If I don't think about it I feel better.  Almost forgetting that I have it, except there are certain things that makes it hard for me to forget.  One of the most annoying ones is my tastebuds.  I don't know how many of...

    Theresa,

When I had my flairup when I was pregnant with my first, I lost the tasetbuds on the left side of my mouth. I was told by the OB that it was due to the pregnancy. But hearing you say it as well as another person I know with MS makes me think, maybe it wasn't a wierd pregnancy thing after all. Good news is my tasebuds came back, so hopefully this will happen to you as well.

I hope so.  I have been like these for months.  But I am encouraged to hear that my sense of taste may come back.  One of the dangers of poor sense of taste is trying to figure out if something is spoiled or not.

Thank you for your post about missing the taste of food.  I was diagnosed in 2007 after my 2nd 'episode' while we were attempting to get a diagnosis other than stroke I kept mentioning how foul specific foods tasted and the difficulty I had at times with swallowing without 'choking'.  I finally saw a speech therapist and he did the strangest little tests.  He'd set up little cups, I'd close my eyes stick out my tongue and he'd touch specific area's on my tongue with a soaked Q tip or something.  I was amazed at the extreme flavor differences.  He was amazed at the flavors I was tasting. It was kinda screwy. Spicy V8 tasted of garlic and cumin, cumin the dominat with and after flavor of garlic. Regluar V8 I nearly gagged, pure overpowering tomato ( i'm not a tomato eater)

I didn't know he was using V8 juices, purreed meats and veggies ect.

I had no stong reaction to veggies, but the meats and later figured out breads, all tasted foul, spoiled and what I suspect road kill taste like. I ate a lot of raw veggies an cut out meat all together for a while.

Once I was diagnosed I was told by several, MS doesn't effect your tast but can effect swallowing.  I knew I wasn't crazy, Thank you for validating for me that it has happened to others.   My taste returned to normal basically.  Salt is the only trouble I have, either I can or I can't taste it, so cooking and spice to taste is tricky at times.

I will check out the post mentioned by others. I am on a quest for knowledge.

thanks everyone for quenching my need.
