Tuesday, September 09, 2008 at 09:02 AMThanks Dr. Gross and Lisa - it would be wonderful have MS be acknowledged more so the public can be educated and grassroots efforrts more supported .. what a wonderful idea ...
I , too, was very moved by Michelle Obamas' speech in so many ways ... she was the only person I could relate to in all of the speeches, most ...
Coming from a very diversified family, wih all races and religious differences , it was refreshing to hear a voice of a woman who faced so much in life that I could really relate to ...
Anyway, she could have talked more about her stance on healthcare , having a father with MS , and how it crosses all barriers to affect children , women and man of all humankind ...
It would have been nice to hear ... thanks for bringing this up and acknowledging her speech ... and for the info ... very eye opening , as I worry about neices and nephews since being dx'd ... and have a few that are with unhealthy or weak imune systems already .. I know that my family does not even think about it , my wish is that they find an identifying gene or protien that will help to detect early the possibilty of MS as to offer pre-emptive strike ... in a perfect world .... agserra

Hi Dr. Gross,
I enjoy reading your posts. Thank you.
There's so many needs within the MS community beyond expanding research. MS patients often need help NOW with services and assistance. And help is not so easy to obtain.
A coming post of mine will address the difficulties in obtaining prescription assistance. Too often the belief is that if you can't afford something, like one of the DMDs, that their are programs to help. But accessing those programs can be very difficult and the requirements are stringent.
The introduced legislation to create a national MS registry is supposed to "allow for future planning of health care needs, detect changes in health practices, assess disease burden, promote advocacy, and support a wide range of research initiatives." I hope that it also will address patients' CURRENT needs, especially those populations who are often overlooked.
