Before taking the step to talk about my personal health issues regarding MS on my blog, instead of sticking to the heady health policy discussions, I did not fully appreciate the wonderful community of MS bloggers online.

Now I look forward to online interactions with individuals whom I know I will never met in person. You're absolutely correct, they are relationships none-the-less. If I had known how my blog, Brass and Ivory, would develop into a micro-MS community itself, I might have named it differently. But then again, I AM Brass and Ivory - not just a musician who plays french horn and piano, but an individual who is strong, malleable, resonant, organic, beautiful, and cherished.

A funny thing though. I am aware of a repeat visitor to my blog (several visits a day sometimes) who comes through a link on my studio website and who is apparently in Arlington, VA (practically within my neighborhood). It drives me crazy that I don't know who this person is and that he/she never leaves comments. But such is the nature of online communities. Never to meet. Alas.

I thank you Mandy for participating in the MS Blogger community online. And to HealthCentral, you chose well in hiring Mandy and Jake to be the leaders of this particular community.

Thank you. As a matter of fact, when I was writing about the on-line people who have helped me, you were among those I had in mind!

By the way, I like your blog's name, "Brass and Ivory," because it highlights the fact that you are more than an MS patient, as we all are.

Thanks again for your wonderful comments.

I fully agree with your comments. The internet has become the surrogate physician and caregiver for people living with chronic conditions.

Hi Mandy - I was so excited to see your post. I really was hoping it would encourage our members to post their own comments or thoughts to our blog. It looks like a couple of new names have shown up and it was great to see.

I am hopeful more people will come along and feel comfortable enough to join our group share their voice and thoughts too.

All the best, sue
