Life at the office can get interesting when you bring MS to work.I spend four hours a day at my office job. I'm very fortunate that my MS is accepted as part of the package. My co-workers get it. They've seen me fairly skip down the hallway and they've seen me when I can barely put one foot in front ...

    Mandy,

I'm sorry, but the imagine of sliding to the floor made me laugh out loud.  Mostly because I was thinking about the getting up again.  yikes.

And hair dryers... who needs a stinkin' hair dryer?  If you're gonna channel Tim Conway, BE Tim Conway - hair, muttering, shuffling, and all.

I do hope that the symptoms decide to retreat and give you a break soon.

Yeah, it was pretty funny. You should see my hair when I skip that blow dryer. I guess if I lay off the Nice 'n Easy too, I could serve as Tim's double. Now that's an image!

He was like the funniest guy on that show.  I loved him as the boss with Mrs. Hiwiggins the secretary.

When I have my episodes my husband says I look like a pirate with a peg leg.  And then there are times I stomp about like an elephant or Frankenstein.  I am not as elegant as even Tim Conway.

Great post...it is good to laugh about it all...what else can you do?

I laughed at the image of the character of Duane that Tim Conway played and I relate.  That's the perfect image for some of our MS shuffles.  I will remember that the next time I'm in that shuffle.  It's good to find the humor so thanks for that image.

I find the frustrating part at the office for me is when coworkers say, 'but you were just fine on Friday, what happened?'  Or when it lifts and I'm walking somewhat normal again they say 'How could it just go away?' Even when I explain that the MS and other symptoms hasn't gone away, just that shuffle part, I sometimes get the look of disbelief.  Or the 'I have a friend with MS who works full-time, goes to school and coaches soccer.  MS hasn't changed her life a bit.'  To which I usually reply 'bite me'.  Okay, not really but I'm thinking it.

Great post.  Thanks for the combination of feeling compassion for you while you work through this to the feeling of joy in your ability to find some humor during the tough times.

    Kathy,

Glad you enjoyed the Tim conway bit!Maybe we should use him as our mascot!

You might enjoy a post I did awhile back "Shouldn't You Be Running a Marathon?"

It addresses some of those "but yesterday you looked so good" issues.

I'm not able to work full time anymore, just half days. But I am very fortunate that my co-workers have taken the time to understand the ups and downs of MS without judging.

    Thanks for stopping by!
