Multiple Sclerosis, Tier 4 Drugs High Copay, Individual Insurance Policy Options

Far too many people have no health insurance coverage at all, for a variety of reasons. I am not among them at this point, but health care reform is needed... and soon, if I am to avoid that fate. Millions of Americans are teetering on the brink along with me.Most of us are not in the market for a fr...

Ain't that the truth? However, I want options which provide REAL choice, not just the less damaging of two choices. Take Virginia as an example. There are two "Blues" in this state, Anthem and Carefirst. Due to the imaginary (almost) dividing line of Route 123 which runs through Fairfax County, each BCBS company has a separate territory and actually abides by differing regulation. Odd, huh? If there were consensus as to the basic requirements of an insurance policy, as the companies who compete to sell those federal employee plans must abide by, then all citizens would benefit. The folks selling those FEHB Plans know that they better make it attractive and affordable because they will have access to the largest employer base in the country ("largest" being my opinion without handy references to quote right now). My tax dollars go to help support all of those federal employees. Why can't I also benefit from the shared support of entire nation? Just my feelings on the matter right now. (Perhaps I need to voice more of my opinion on this matter.)

Amen! We need REAL options, not just the lesser of evils.

Please do continue to voice your opinion on all matters related to health care reform.

Every voice counts, and I believe we are getting louder. Even if we just make one small dent in the health care nightmare, we've done something positive.

Every time we write and post on this world wide web, we help to spread the word. Hopefully, we will make a difference for people who have not yet walked in our shoes.

I was recently approved for social security disability.  I was then STUNNED to learn that I can get Medicare, but not for 24 months.  If I weren't married, I would have to pay my COBRA premiums, which are incredibly expensive, or have no health insurance.  Seems like a dangerous gap to me.

I think COBRA is a great thing -- if you have the means to pay for it.

The problem is that if you've lost your job or have a disability... or both... it's a huge opportunity to fall through the cracks. There are some cracks in our health care "system" that are so big that we can hardly avoid them.

I'm happy to hear that you are approved for Social Security Disability. I will be interested to know how that works out and what cracks you can tell us about down the road.

Thanks, Joan.
