I have High Intensity Multiple white matter lesions in my brain, detected recently in an MRI. I am seeing a nuerologist in a couple weeks. My primary doctor said this could possibly be MS. I am 43 years old. Do these lesions indicate MS. I have read they are not normal at my age.Thank you. Julie

Hi Julie,

The first step to finding out what might be going on is the MRI you have recently had.  You have lesions which could be indicated of MS as your PCP mentioned, but they could be caused by other things.  Being referred to a neurologist is an excellent next step. Please do not be surprised if you are asked to undergo another series of MRIs, especially if this batch was not done with an injected contrast agent.

Read Beginner's Guide to MS: Do I have MS? What does it take to get diagnosed with MS? for more information about the process and further testing which may be requested.
