IV Solumedral...nasty taste tip

By KristinaYellow Saturday, March 12, 2011

So I had to have the IV treatment last week and realized how nasty it makes everything taste. Guess I blocked that from last time. Anyway...this time the nurse told me to try sucking on a Werther's Original hard candy.

Mints and Jolly Ranchers and all of those types of candies made me feel worse so I tried the caramels and darnit, they worked!
I couldn't believe it. It really does help to make the metal taste less obvious in your mouth and they still taste good.

I sound like an ad but I promise, I'm not selling anything here. Try it for your next treatment and see--the nurse said it had something to do with the richness of the candy versus other hard candies which have some type of tangy or minty cover.

That's a great suggestion!!  I really like Werther's candy but haven't had it in a very long time.  I can imagine how the taste would help mask the metal mouth syndrome with steroids.

We have a post where folks have left their suggestions for how to deal with IVSM infusions.  Would you add this suggestion to the list?  See Solumedrol: It's All the Rage!
