I grew up using a land line telephone. I can remember when the phones were rotary dial and hung on the kitchen wall or placed on a telephone stand. No I am not as old as dirt but I still have the memories. 'Party Lines', shared phone lines with someone else in the neighborhood. You could actually pick up the receiver and hear the other conversation. Boy did my Mom get upset when the other party tied up the line for long periods of time. I remember a few verbal arguments.
But I digress! Now we have cell phones. Never did want one but with my MS and taking walks I thought it to be a good idea for emergencies. Now all 3 of my children have my number and call my cell phone.
Boy do I have a difficult time hearing them. My right ear has hearing loss from MS, try to use my left ear or even speaker phone, but unless I am in a totally quiet space I can not understand them. I have to keep saying WHAT? I find having a face to face conversation difficult sometimes as well. They talk soooo fast and not to my face, I find myself still processing 'Hi Mom how are you'?

I remember phones that hung on walls and had long curly cords which reached from room to room. Cell phones have changed the way we communicate in more ways than one. I like to use the speaker phone setting on my iphone to talk to people. Seems that I can actually hear them a bit better that way. But it is still nice when people speak slowly and enunciate. :)
