Meeting the challenges of MS or.....

By Sherry O Sunday, October 11, 2009

I have been away from the site dealing with the needed renovations of my bathroom & bedroom.  I am so very thankful for my friend who is a contractor.  He is also the city's contractor;  this means the work at my house is fit in around city's needs but, he provides his and his staff's time at a ridiculously low cost.  I would never tell him that the upheaval is quite overwhelming.  He is sensitive to the physical challenges and has always just put up railings, grab bars, etc. without having to be asked.  I love this friend and feel so blessed we met.  It will be wonderful when finished; roll-in shower; closet reconfigured to house washer/dryer and my substantially smaller wardrobe since I don't work anymore.

The other person who is an amazing blessing in my life is my 95yr. old mother-in-law who has always shared her gift of prayer and her time to those in need and, her love of family, even those of us who were fortunate enough to have married into her family.  She made this reno a reality with the money we needed.

Since this is our (Canadian) Thanksgiving, this post is to acknowledge those people God has blessed me with; my husnand & rock; my kids; my parents, my friends and my Faith Family, and, of course, the fine doctors who keep me going. Thanks to all of you, who are a gift from God and have made my life so awesome in ways you may not even realize.  I am also thankful for this website and those who share their gifts, struggles and great ideas for dealing with them.  Thank's to all of you.

Fog of depression rolling in....

SherryO, I also did away with my bathtub and I have a shower stall now, and I love it.  I still have some ability to walk, mainly in the mornings.  I love my shower it is the best, I must say sometimes I do miss my bathtub, but truth be known, I would probably have eventualy drowned in the tub because I would love to go to sleep in the warm water.  I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, even though we are dealing with this monster we are still blessed.  sherry/smomdukesKiss

Good to hear from you MomDukes,

I had my first shower without the confinement of the tub.  I never thought I would have gained so much space; it's like having an extra room in the bathroom.  One of the changes we made was to remove the tiny window that was on one wall of the old set up and replace it with a beautiful 36" X 36"  double hung window!  Sunshine & fresh air!  I don't miss the tub; the only reason I had to use it was to stand in it for the shower.  I was always an in and out person.

Hope all is well with your family and as well as one can hope for, with you.

My husband closed the pool today and put most of the garden to bed for the winter.  Still had shrubs & perrennials I didn't get planted so we just stuck them in the ground & will deal with them next year.  Who knows maybe they'll look fine!  They were calling for frost last night so, we brought in the rest of our tomatoes, cukes & peppers; I don't think we got frost but, won't be long now I fear.  I'm not a winter person; okay when I was a kid but, the ground seems so much harder than it used to when I fall!

Think I'll cuddle with the dog, who's already made himself comfortable, and catch some TV.

Talk to you soon.

God's blessings to you and your family,

SherryO

Hi Sherry,

It's good to see you here!!  And good to hear that the renovations have gone smoothly.  I hope that you enjoy your new bathroom and bedroom.  Today is a good day to be thankful.  Smile

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for welcoming words; feels like I've been out of the loop for a long time!  My teenagers remind me regularly just how much when I have to fund out the new definitions to words I thought I already knew, eg. sick means something is good???

Most days it's easy to find something to find something or many to be thankful for; my husband & children, always.  I never thought in a million years that I'd be sharing coffee and discussing the Beatle's music, WOW!!  I'm thankful I don't have to listen to the stuff most of their friends listen too. Some days you win one; I'm cool because I was "alive" when Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, et.al were starting out also, because their dad and I were dating and saw the first Star Wars movie together!  Yes, somedays you win one or two!

Reno not quite complete but, looking good.

Warm regards,

SherryO

I am glad that you are enjoying your new shower.  I have decorated my bath with photos that my husband has taken and it looks good.  I went to my pops and got some Rooster Cones and I have them drying in my garage for the seeds so that I can plant them next summer.  I will see if I have photo of one and post it so you can see what one looks like, it is a beautiful odd flower.  It attracts huge bees.  I cannot do much walking to plant so I crawl around on the ground, you know I really do love it.  I think that it is kinda funny.  Hey  if you cannot walk, you adjust, crawl, just put on a pair of thick old jeans.Smile  Well take care, the weather is turning cold here, the leaves are changing colors, I have got events at church.  I have got to get my camera out and get busy.  Take care.
