Right after Thanksgiving I wrote a piece titled "Wheeeee!!!" in which I stated that Mandy and I succumbed to Wii madness, purchased one of the video game consoles, and planned to delve into the world of Wii, Miis, and daily fitness tests. We guessed that perhaps, because of the physical nature of Wii...

I really enjoyed your post about the Wii. I, like Mandy, can't lift a bowling ball or actually throw one. I was real interested in getting one but wasn't sure I would be able to move around to play. After reading about Mandy I decided that would be a way to get some excercise & have fun at the same time. My husband & I play & I love it. Can you tell me what games you have that you have to get up & move to play? Thanks, Margaret Owens

Whoops! Sorry that it's taken me so long to reply. Turns out that the email account I use for  MS Central wasn't working. [And I just thought nobody loved me anymore Cry]

Anyway, I'm glad you're sold on the Wii. So far, the games that get Mandy moving the most are the ones that come with the Wii itself... Wii Sports. Bowling, Tennis, Boxing in particular.

Today we got a Wii Fit game. Hard to find, but it turns out that Costco has them online... (a little tip for those who are paying attention.) Tomorrow morning the workout regimen begins!

Good luck with your Wii. Just remember to have some fun while you're getting your exercise.

Thanks for replying & it's OK that it took so long. I did buy the Wii Fit & I do the balance games & believe it or not but it has improved my balance. I have had people notice that I walk much better. I can't do most of the other games but I have notice that my leg muscles are getting stronger. I try to do it every day. I also do bowling every day with my husband, he is addicted. I get so worn out because he wants to keep going to try & beat me that I sit down to bowl. Thanks again for answering my question. I really enjoy reading you & Mandy's post...Margaret Owens

    Hi Jake --

I was on the tennis team when I was in college, and altho my tennis days are long over, I still really miss playing. I was tempted over the holidays to get a Wii, and now I'm convinced - it'll be fun and will get me off of my butt and away from the puter. My dh just walked by and asked if they had Wii Fishing, and since you've mentioned that they do, I'm definitely going to get one this week!

    Thanks for the motivation.

Whoa! Heidi. That fishing that I mentioned is not what you are thinking, so don't make that the reason you buy a Wii. It's very simplistic - an occasional diversion. Little more than hauling in unrealistic looking fish from a small pond.

You might want to check online to see if Wii offers other, more realistic fishing games. I'm betting that they do, but don't want to say so without knowing for sure.

Our newest addition to Wii is something called Wii Fit. It doesn't come with the basic game and costs about $90. It's hands-down, the best fitness program, complete with balance board that links to the Wii, that I've ever seen. Yoga, Strength Building, Balance exercises, and more. Highly recommended -- and quite challenging at times.

Hi Jake - Even w/o decent fishing, I'm still sold on it. My personal trainer got one for her family this Xmas and she's going to bring it over for me to try. The balance board - this alone will be worth the price of admission. She has me doing balance exercises every session and tho I'm not very good at them, I still do them. I could do them better if I could feel my feet...

I'll let you know when I get my Wii...

    Best,

    Heidi
