Q: what is the benefit of vitaman b-12

Hi Stacey

 

This is a good question.  If you read this article about Vitamin B-12 and Multiple Sclerosis, it seems that patients with MS are more at risk for being deficient for this vitamin.

 

And this abstract pretty much says the same thing and also that:  "Coexisting vitamin B12 deficiency might aggravate MS or impair recovery from MS."

 

It seems that Vitamin B-12 may be important for the maintenance of the myelin sheeth.

Perhaps others can chime in to tell us if they take Vitamin B-12 and if they feel it helps any.

Again I haven't been diagnosed w/ MS yet, however:  I'm going through a tough "onslot" of testing, my GP has is now wondering about MS, but he did tell me to take thiamine, and see if that helped.  So I bought a Vitamin B complex which is supposed to help "support a healthy nervous system".  It has well over 100% of all B vitamins and 1000% of thiamine and other nutrients.  I have been taking it everyday for over a month and I can tell you:  I don't see a difference.  Nothing has changed that hasn't changed on it's own before I started taking it.  I still experience all the same things.  I'm not saying it DOESN'T WORK at all, I would say it sure can't hurt, but I don't see a lick of difference.  I'm going to continue to stay on it, if for no other reason then it cost 20$ and I have 300 more.

I started taking B complex vitamins about 7 years ago. I swear it gives me more energy. Sometimes it made my legs get shocks that felt like nerves healing. (After a hysterectomy my Dr told me to expect such shocks where he cut me, as the nerves healed.) I am JUST now starting to take them again. Many feel they are a waste because your body gets rid of them in your urine within 2-8hrs, but some feel they helpthe myelin sheath regrow. No proven tests but can it hurt to try? Increase it naturally if you can. To B or not to B, that is the question.
