financial aid
Is there any help for people who are working with MS? Im getting divorced, my house is paid for, but they say I have to sell. We have no assets but the house. Not a good house, just a house.
I make 460 pw gross now, but, that is going down because I can't keep up the hours.
My medicine copays cost about 400. per month. No help is out there that I can find for people who have insurance.
If I stop working I can get SS, but I have a waiting game... my 2 grandsons live with me so I have to support them, I have nothing legal to place them with me, just have them. How do you pay for groceries, utilities, medicine, et... if you don't work at all. And if I work, I can't get disability. Catch 22 if you ask me.
Thanks so much for your posted question. It sounds like you have alot on your plate and really could use a hand. A couple of suggestions that could help. First, you might consider contacting one or more of the national organizations that are focused on MS. They may be able to offer advice and provide resources to ease your financial burden. As well, you might consider contacting the pharmacuetical company or manufacturer about free or reduced rates for your medications. You may qualify for this and many of the companies have this kind of assistance programs. Finally, you might also reach out to some of the MS support groups that are there for sufferers of this disease.
Please respond back with an update when you can. I know our users will benefit from the informaiton you gather.
Hope this helps and all the best, sue

Hi Shelly,
I've just now seen your question. I'm sorry that you are dealing with so much all at once. That doesn't make things easy, now does it?
Finding financial assistance can be challenging. I know from personal experience. Regarding help with drugs, I suggest that you search at NeedyMeds. They keep a thorough, up-to-date resource of programs to help.
Unfortunately when I was looking, the various MS societies were not able to help directly and had limited knowledge of where to refer me (other than places I had already tried.)
You are correct in thinking that many of the programs are limited to those folks who are uninsured. But there are many which do assist folks who are insured but who have high co-pays, or their coverage is exhausted. It truly depends upon the drug in question.
Also with an income in your range, you financially qualify to take advantage of RX Outreach which has a rather extensive list of generic drugs in their program. There is a "processing fee" but it has been well worth it for me and many of my generics can be found there when they are not included in the Walmart or Target $4 programs.
I hope that helps give you some ideas and leads on where to find help with the drug costs. Please let us know how things are going.
Thanks,
Lisa
