Q: Hot and Bothered in Sunny California

i was diagnosed with RRMS roughly 10 years ago with mild to moderate sensory issues to date.  My most present and persistent symptom (aside from fatigue and depression) is feeling, hot, fevered, on fire, especially in my palms and the soles of my feet, but really everywhere.  Is there something to target this "sensation" as an elevated temp does not register on a thermometer?  A cold shower will only temporarily provide comfort.  This is different than heat sensitivity.

Hi Shannon,

Welcome to HealthCentral.  What you describe sounds like a very common symptom with MS - paresthesia. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/paresthesia/paresthesia.htm

Treatment depends upon the exact cause of the burning pain.  Some medications, such as gabapentin, are used in MS patients.  Definitely mention this persistent symptom to your neurologist and ask about strategies to lessen it's effect on your daily activities.

I've experienced a similar symptom and it's NOT fun.  I hope that you can find some relief soon.

Lisa
