Q: Hi, I need a diet & exercise plan to lose the 30 kilos I gained to control my symptoms & have a baby

Hi,I am fron Greece and I have relapsing remitting ms for 4 years with 2-3 relapses per year and lesions in brain, neck and spine. Severe fatigue, pain, problem with heat , walking and balance, sleepiness  during the day, insomnia due to anxiety at night and most importantly for me weight gain which I believe is the root of all evils.  I have gained 30 kilos(is that around 60 pounds? I'm not really sure) and I desperately need a diet plan suitable for ms (was 65 kilos, now 95 with height only 1.60) and also an exercise plan. I am enganged and we want a baby but my doctors told me that I must lose 20 kilos minimum as soon as possible to avoid pregnancy problems (due to high cholesterol and blood sugar mainly)...not an easy task when you think of the depression and the sugar cravings..Could you please provide me with a diet and exercise plan? I can walk on the treadmill for 30-40 mins twice a week ( with the AC on full blast of course!) and I work  as a teacher so I'm usually at home by 3 pm. I do have the time to try whatever you suggest, as long as there is someone out there with an answer to my questions.. otherwise , thank you just for reading my complaints! Smile

Hi Maria,

It's great that you are walking on the treadmill twice a week.  Would it be possible to increase that to at least four times each week.  Getting more exercise (which you can do safely) is important for burning excess calories.  Talk to your doctors about exercises which they might recommend for you and have them show you how to do so safely.  Regarding diet/food, it is important that you consume fewer calories than you burn in order to lose weight.  Again, professional advice would be helpful here.  If your doctors suggest that you lose weight, ask them for recommendations.

I hope that your MS is doing well otherwise.  And congratulations on your engagement!!
