Q: Can vitamin B12 ease the symptoms of MS

I do not believe I have ever been tested for B12 deficentcy. I have diabetes, MS, along with celiac diseace. I understand that it is very possible that my ablity to absorb vitamin B12 from animal products may be insufficent. Could someone maybe give me a little info on this topic?

Thank you,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

To find information for you, I googled "vitamin b12 deficiency" and found a rather informative article by the American Academy of Family Physicians organization.  You can read that here.  Another article can be read here at the online Merck Manual Home Edition.

Upon adding "multiple sclerosis" to the search terms, I found this discussion on the MedHelp forum.  And here is a brief review of research related to vitamin b12 deficiency and multiple sclerosis.

Most likely before you were official diagnosed with MS, your blood levels were checked for vitamin b12 deficiency since the symptoms can mimic those of MS.  If you are concerned about this and want to have your levels checked, please contact your primary doctor.

Hi Stephen! Smile

Well, the fact that you have celiac disease would compromise the absorption of any vitamins. I suggest you get your B12 blood levels checked at the octor's. If you are deficient, your doctor can then start giving you B12 injections to bering your levels to normal and keep them there. A deficiency would give you more symptoms, yes, expecially numbness and tingling. Can I also suggest the Best Bet diet to you? I will provide a link at the end. This diet is not fun, however it is a miracle for anyone with MS (in my opinion as well as in those of many who have tried it-see testimonials page). It is very restrictive BUT I assure you that it will help your celiac disease, your diabetes (especially if you are Type II but will help to normalize your blood sugar levels even if you are Type I), and the MS as well! Here is the link now.

I wish you well Stephen. I hope you will try the diet. It has really helped me a lot. I have far less numbness, I am definitely more energetic and my coordination and balance have improved. People who don't know I have MS can't tell I have it. I pray it stays this way.

Here is the link to the Best Bet Diet again stephen as the one above didn't seem to wor. If it fails again, just type "Best Bet Diet" into your search engine and it will come up. You can use the various links to the left of the main page to navigate the different pages of the site. Please be sure to read the testimonial, the best Bet Diet Supplements and Ashton Embry's papers as well. It is very fascinating and it makes sense! Good luck!

Sorry Stephen and everyone, this is the first time I answer a question and I am just getting used to it. Apparently I clicked "answer this" more than once when I became impatient as it wasn't posting right away. Argh... Tongue out
