Q: my Dr. says that I have significant demyliation, have symptoms of MS. My GP thinks it is MS, but my neuro. says she doesn't think so. Am I loosing my mind? A third opinion of what is happening to me.

I have had "spells" for 10 years. At first they were sever migrains followed by bouts of extreme fatigue, weakness, and memory lose. The were not cosistant in symtoms of time spans. had these for about 8 years. I have white matter demylanation which is getting worse. Lately the spells have been more frequent with tingling, pain in extemidies, sharp pains in my stomach, I even lost vision in my left eye once. My memory and coordination faulters during these times and I am prone to accidents. Some thines I can not type, either due to trimers, or I can not process from my head to my hands and misspell all the words.

Hi teristilley,

Welcome to HealthCentral.  I'm glad to read that you are getting a 3rd opinion.  It is obvious that SOMETHING is going on and has been for years.  You have some evidence (demyelination) which might indicate MS (but can also be caused by migraines).

Consulting with a different neurologist sounds like an excellent idea.  Be sure to prepare for your appointment.

Write down the history of your symptoms and previous tests.  Write down the result of the tests and any treatments tried.  Take copies of test results if you have them.

Take somebody with you to the appointment to be an extra set of ears.  Ask lots of questions.

One important question: "If it isn't MS, what do you think it might be?"

When you state that your Neuro says they don't think so that strikes me as odd.  Have you had any testing done such as a spinal tap?  It seems they should have done some testing to rule it out so easily!  I too recommend seeking out a new neurologist.  Do you happen to have any in your area that focus on MS?  Best of luck to you, take care.
