Q: why can't i focus and am always tired

I have had a problem focusing on any task trying to complete, I forget things so easily that my eight year old son notices.  I am also tired all the time.  I go to bed sometimes at 9pm and wake up tired. I also see spots of light. and get many headaches. What is going on?  My dr. is no help.   I have been on paxil for 4 or 5 years now and don't know if this med is a contributing factor. I have not been diagnosed with MS.

Hey Jill

As I read along I was thinking...gee...I have these same issues but yes I have been diagnosed with MS.

I just looked up some information on Paxil and here is a good site that I found talking about the side effects.  It seems that some of the things you are experiencing could very well be side effects from this drug.  Some of the side effects do include headache, dizziness, blurry vision, and a drugged feeling among others.

What sorts of headaches do you have?  Are they migraines?  I know some migraine sufferers who have a lot of these symptoms.  Depression in itself, too, can cause one to be forgetful and tired.

I am thinking that if your present doctor is not giving you any answers then it might be time to see someone else who can be of more help.  Write down a list of all of your symptoms and be very specific as far as their intensity and how long they have been going on, and present these to a doc who will listen.  There are a number of things which could be causing your symptoms but you won't know for sure until you go see a doctor who will actually sit down with you and take you seriously.

Let us know how things go for you.  And thank you for your question.

Hi Jill,

It seems to me that you are experiencing a little bit of Cognitive Condition symptoms (read up alot on this subject and educate yourself, "Knowledge is Power", in which I have been developing for the last 10 years or so.  I don't have the headaches because it must be in my case that the MONDAY  of each which week (Avones Shot) I will take up to 6 Tylenol from 6 pm to 6 am the next day.  At first I felt like I was in between Dementia & Alzheimers.

I can give a little hint of what I do to get a little control back of the memory & physical disconnections I get throughtout the day.  For me I had to find something that would control my memory/body better.  It was like I thought about something to do down the hallway but forgot what it was and it seems I kept going back and forth trying to remember what it was and in the meantime my body was getting tired.  At that time I went to physically started where the thought came to me and stood there until it came back.  That I felt was a pain in the ass.

Therefore I came up with a focal point that would jump my mind quicker back to where it was in the first place when this occurs.  Each Sunday I make a list of things on a daily basis on a sheet of paper.  Like Sunday, Monday, etc so when I forget I look a this piece of paper, which I leave on the table I have to walk by all the time, and cross things off when I do them.  This helps to keep me focussed and I am not that tried as I was before trying to figure out what I was doing a minute ago.  This also helps to tell you how you are doing in completing what you set out for this week.

Try this out because doctors still kind of don't unerstand totally yet.  They are getting better at it.

Jill,

Just checking in to see how you are doing.  Did you talk with your doctor about these things going on?  Or did you seek another doctor's opinion?  There could be so many reasons that you are experiencing these symptoms.  I hope that you find some answers.
