Q: . can a relapse be just vision spots and loss of taste?

I have a 21 month old baby and I haven't had a relapse since before I was pregnant. I had the flu last week, and I wonder if it may have triggered a relapse to start up. I'm always exhausted, my arms are week, I'm seeing bright spots all the time, and I have very little taste in my mouth.

Hi Deborah,

Let me ask, are you still in the middle of the flu?  If so, this could just be a pseudoexacerbation triggered by the infection in your body.  Pseudoexacerbations are a temporary relapse of symptoms which resolve on their own when the cause has passed.

But there are relapses which could be called post-infection events.  My first documented case of optic neuritis was determined to be one of those, years before my MS diagnosis.

However, the big however, if you haven't contacted your neurologist or nurse, I suggest that you do so.  He/she may want to have you come into the office to be evaluated.  They might be able to find other areas of your body which are being affected that you hadn't noticed.  And most importantly, you could start treatment for a relapse if that's necessary.

Good luck.
