Q: Six Siblings with MS

I have 11 siblings, 6 with MS. Is this unusual?

Hi Ctramm,

Wow. Six out of eleven.


Genetics may have a role in determining who gets MS.  Someone with a relative who has MS has a 1% to 3% chance of developing it compared to less than 1% for the gneral population. Some research scientists believe relatives iinherit certain regions on individual chromosomes more often anyone without MS relatives.


Still, I have to believe that ratio is unusual.  I don't know if anyone has done a study in that area.  It is an interesting question.

I would assume that just statistically it is possible. If there are 12 of you, it serves to reason that 50% will have the gene associated with MS.
