Q: Pain and numbness

I am having pain and numbness at the same time. It started in my right thigh and then progressed upward in my pelvic area, my buttock, and now my lower abdomen. I am having a lot of pain in my right hip. I am very dizzy and wobbily so I have to use my cane. I am seeing my PCP tomorrow but I think I should talk to my neurologist. I just have so much trouble getting in touch with him. Has anyone had similar symptoms to mine?

Hi Karen, I have numbness and pain in my knees and legs all the time.  I have basiclly learned to just live wth it.  I do take Nuerotin at night and it helps my legs so much.  I just started taking it, but I took it years ago for my carpel tunnel and it helps with that also. The down side, is it make you so sleepy, but I only take it at night. I use my canes all the time, if I did not I would start breaking bones again.  I have broken my ankel, leg, knee and shoulder Undecided  I use canes from everywhere, I collect them.  Talk to your nuero, you may need the mighty Steroid treatment, it helps, I hate to get one but it helps, I have had two treatments, both to uncross my eyes.  I looked like a "cockeye fool"  LOL LOL LOL, hey I can laugh at myself Laughing that is just the nature of the beast.  I hope you get to feeling better!

Thank you for your quick response! I have recently taken a deep breath and made sure that I take my cane with me whenever I go anywhere. I wasn't doing that before( stupid pride). I just came back from my PCP and he prescribed Gabapentin(?). I am going to look it up. I will probably call my neuro too, to at least tell him what's going on. Thanks again.

Hi,

I have just now seen your question and Sherry's response.  Sherry does have a wonderful way with words and outlook on the thing called MS.  I go to her for inspiration often.

Now, what I was going to share is that I take gabapentin (the generic name for Neurontin) for MS pain also.  It has been extremely helpful to me and I don't go a day without it.  Some days I have needed a higher amount than other days, but it certainly does help.

I hope that it helps you too!!  Good luck and please let us know how it goes after a few days.

Thanks Lisa, I found out about Gabapentin on the internet yesterday and I had heard of Neurotin. I hope to get the perscription filled in a few days-when I can afford my copay. I'm glad to hear that it is useful and effective. I will let you know how it works for me.

i have numbness and pain-right now the left side of my left arm and had are numb and the two smaller fingers are numb and useless. i just wait those out-the bright side to that one is the poison ivy i got into cleaning the yard didn't itch. my nerve pain strikes in a most personal spot and feels like razorblades. i  refuse to be without the gabapentin-i'm up to 600mg 3x a dayand i've been on them so long they don't make me sleepy any more-i do hope thet work for you. it's really hard to  explain to someone that it's numb-but it hurts. i think that  else with ms could understand. djax59

I just wanted to tell you that I have been on the Neurotin for about a week and it is working for me. Wow, I haven't been without the pain for awhile so I feel so much better. Thank you to everyone who sent me a reply. It helps to know that there are others out there who will know what I am talking about.

so good to hear the meds are working .. i developed that burn/numb/pain in my 8th year .. a neuro saw i had tried all the other meds .. soma, mobic, flexeril, skelaxin, neurontin ..

i have a low tolerance unfortunately .. but he gave me samples of baclofen .. and they worked a bit along with tramadol .. it was only this year when seeing my rheumo that she gave me samples of lyrica ..

adding two 50mgs at night only along with the others was like heaven for me that i cried for joy ..

now i only take them when needed , as the pian starts to build , i add the lyrica for 2-3 nights and it works .. just mentioning this as a back up reference only ..

god bless you on your journey .. agserra
