Q: Heat Sensitivity

Now that it is Summer, how many are dealing with Heat sensitivity? I am dealing with it and it seems so much worse this year. The other day, I couldn't feel the Gas peddle under my foot after being out in the heat. I had to stop at my sister's house to cool down before I could drive the rest of the way home. It just seems like the problems I had before are so much worse now. My fingers have been tingling and numb for ten years, but right now, I can hardly type. I guess my question is, is this similar to anyone elses' experience? Also, would you tell your Neurologist?

karen-somehow it seems so much hotter this year and summer is just starting-the way it's going i probably won't be able to get out of bed in aug. for those of us sensitive- getting overheated causes pseudo-exacerbations--just like the real thing but they get better when you get cooled down--i try to get any outside work done in the morning before it gets hot or after it cools down in the evening. i have a cool vest that helps immensely if i have to be out for very long and a/c seems to be a must in the car and at home. i also run cool water over my wrists and put a cold wet towel around my neck. hot showers are out of the question. a little planning goes a long way in keeping you on your feet. i  had a long drive today and stopped at mcdonalds and got an ice tea(only $1) to try to keep my core temp down. this is how i manage. i hope it helps you a little. and yes i would tell my neuro if only to keep him/her posted as to how you are doing. djax59

Karen, I would defiinitely tell the doctor. Yes, Heat is the worse when u have MS, at least it has been for me. Maybe u do need a cooling vest, I often think about getting one myself. Good luck and take care and cool!

Karen,

To just add to the previous comments----My doctor told me that the head and neck are very important to stay cool. There are cooling bandanas which have a pocket for ice. I fixed my own bandana. Just be careful in the heat.
