Hi Angelika,
Hmm. Diets. There are several diets promoted as just the thing, but not everyone agrees.
I think the most important thing when choosing a diet is to find one you can stick with. All of the MS diets are intended to be lifestyle habits.
Many of the MS diets include reduced red meats, gluten (that's wheat) and dairy free, antioxidants such as leafy green vegetables and fruits, fish, and good oils like olive oil. Fewer refined foods are often recommended, to the point that one diet actually talks about eating like early man before there was processed food. This takes some committment.
As far as avoiding -- animal fats and dairy. I have seen some mention that chocolate should be avoided, but let's get real. What harm could a nice bit of dark chocolate do?
I wrote in more detail about about diets as part of a series on Food and MS:Diets. Lisa Emrich also wrote about MS diets here and again here. Please look at these articles, the specific diets described, and see if you find one that fits your life. I don't recommend one over the other because each of them has positive anecdotal evidence. They are all healthy, and I think it is important to eat healthy meals — just like Mom said.
I hope this helps. Let us know what you decide and how it is helping. Good luck.
