Hi Moona,

I'm sorry that your friend is going through this right now.  Hopefully the IV steroid treatments will help to calm the "electrical fire" which she feels if that is part of her exacerbation (attack).

When I'm on IV steroids, my neurologist will prescribe pills to help me sleep and get some rest.  I am not familiar with the effects of melatonin.  Actually, none of us on this website are doctors so we can't give medical advice.  We can only share our experience and things we've learned along the way.

Hopefully your friend can talk to her neurologist to discuss what's going on with her.

Hi Moona,

There was a time that no one thought MS caused pain.  Now, however, it is generally accepted.

If your friend is having neuropathic pain, and it sounds as if that may be it, neither aspirin nor any other popular pain killers will work. The doctor on call may not be a neurologist and may not know.

Is the pain around the IV? That may make a difference. The "electrical fire" part makes me think of neuropathic pain. She needs to call a neurologist.

If your friend has MS, melatonin is usually not recommended as a sleep aid. That would be another thing a doctor should be able to suggest. Again, a neurologist is the best type of doctor to understand. If she cannot find a neurologist, perhaps yoga relaxation techniques will help.

I wish you luck.  I know it is not easy. Hopefully her doctor will be available soon.
