Q: Disturbing communication of feelings

With MS is it normal to have a feeling or thought your trying to speak like a normal person when you ask a question, even though I know it takes people with MS longer to get out what you are trying to say, and you don't get an answer, it is like you are being dismissed, then you just get pissed off?

Hi Lena!

I can understand your frustration.  Sometimes it does take more time to express a thought and by the time you do, the person who is supposed to be listening may have given up and stopped listening.  Is this happening in general or with specific people?  Unfortunately not everyone we talk to is going to have patience.  It takes education to let others know that we who have MS might need a little extra time to think and get the words out of our mouth.

I was concerned about this for myself as I have had some difficulty speaking at times so I am learning a bit of sign language in hopes that when my speech is not working...my hands might be and I can give some quick signs when I need to.  Of course this involves teaching others sign language.  I have also considered using picture rebus symbols that my son uses...he has autism and has always had trouble communicating.

At any rate...don't give up.  I know this is hard.  I hope it helps to vent a little.
