Q: Can suboxin be useful in managing pain from MS

I recently fired my doctor and have been without meds for about 2 weeks. I experience severe MS pain on a daily basis. I took a small strip of suboxin and cut it in 5 pieces. I experienced absolutely no pain and symtoms, after taking this medicine. Can suboxin be used to treat painful symptoms of MS?

Hi Stephanie,

I'm sorry that you have had a difficult time with your doctor and with pain.  I had not heard of Suboxone (buprenorphine), so I looked it up.  Suboxone is a semi-synthetic opoid drug which can be used to treat chronic pain and opoid addition.  Although it seems that it is not really used for neuralgic pain which is common in MS.

Why was Suboxone originally prescribed for you?  Does it work for that indication?

If you don't have an MS neurologist, I recommend that you find one in your area.  Neurologists who specialize in MS are usually well versed in treating MS-related pain.

I've learned something today.  Thank you for your question.

Lisa
