Q: I was diagnosed with MS in 2006 and have been on Copaxone. I haven't had new lesions or relapses in

I was diagnosed with MS in 2006 and have been on Copaxone. I haven't had new lesions or relapses in fact, the one lesion discovered in my brain has gotten smaller. I still deal with fatigue and muscle spasms. If there are no new lesions, why do I continue to have the fatigue? I guess I think I'm doing so well why am I dealing with the stuff that doesn't have a reason for happening (a lesion to explain the fatigue). Thanks for your help.

Hi Carey,

That's great news that you haven't had any new lesions or relapses since 2006.  Good thing.  Now the question of continuing symptoms is a good one.  What my neurologist has told me is that symptoms and lesions do not correlate.  You can have one without the other and sometimes lesions could be so small that they aren't detected by our current MRI technology.

But what to do about the spasticity and fatigue?  There are various ways which people try to manage spasticity and here is a post which covers some of those.  And here is a post which discusses fatigue management.  These are suddenly symptoms which you should discuss with your neurologist.  Perhaps together you can find a way to lessesn them.

Give some of these ideas a try and please let us know if they help.
