Q: What is gluten? Is it possible to eat gluten-free?

What is "gluten"? Is there a gluten-free diet in the US?

Can we fight MS  through colon clensing and nutrition?  Ifso. would you make reading recommendations?

Hi Helen,

Gluten is a protein found in wheat and several other grains.  In some people who are not able to digest the protein, gluten intolerance can cause celiac disease which is a rare disorder, but unpleasant one.  Read a brief piece on gluten-free diet here.

Regarding colon cleansing, I must be honest and say that I've read many medical professionals (who I respect) say that colon cleansing DOES NOT improve health.

Regarding nutrition to fight MS, there are many theories of diets which can help lessen inflammation in the body and may relieve some MS symptoms.  I have not tried this approach strictly but know others who do.

Some of these include:

Swank MS Diet

The Best Bet Diet

Dr. Jelinek's version of Swank Diet

MS Recovery Diet (which is a combination of those above)

I've not read or tried any of the above in all seriousness, so I can't really comment or recommend them personally.  But these present a good starting point for researching the nutritional approach.
