Tuesday, March 24, 2009 Linda asks

Q: I am in limbo.

The first neuro was so quick to say "nothing" and practically ran me out of his office because it was lunchtime.   However, my regular doctor is very proactive and has scheduled me for a second opinion next week.  I was supposed to see a "second" opinion doctor in May, but it was moved up to end of March.  Anyway, my husband, although I love him, thinks I am faking the symptoms and thinks I am a hypocondriac (sp).  Therefore, I do not talk to him at all about my doctors' appointments, my symptoms, etc.  I guess if I am to be diagnosed by a neuro, then my husband will have to join me and hear it for himself.  My MRI shows multiple white matter hyperintensities, I have numbness in my right face and right arm and hand.  I am dizzy all the time, extremely tired all the time, and I am beginning to have problems picking up objects with my right hand (I am right handed).  Also, my speech seems to be off, that is, I can't seem to get the words out correctly or even remember what an object is such as a pencil.  This is not too bad, but I never experienced this before.  Anyway, I guess I am just wanting to vent and I appreciate all of you reading and "listening" to me.  Any thoughts?  Thank you, Linda

Hiyah Linda

Yeah...it is rough to be in limbo.  I remember not wanting to share talking about my symptoms with most people because I got quite a few dismissive comments.  I remember being on-line and mentioning my symptoms just to blog buddies and one woman said to me, "gee...that sure does sound like MS" and this was from a person who had this disease.  It turned out that she was right. That was so validating for me that someone listened and I knew I wasn't crazy.

I am really hoping that they do figure out what is going on with you and the sooner the better.  Peace of mind of just knowing what you are dealing with is worth a lot.  I am hoping that you don't have MS but if you do...there is much that you can do and there is a ton of support.

Please do let us know what happens with you.  My thoughts will be with you.

One article you can read until those better informed arrive, is about being where you are right now and it has a number of suggestions for you to ask, and tell, your doctor. It was done by a writer who works here named Merely Me and it is titled,  Are You IN Limbo? Here Is What to Ask and Tell Your Doctor

Another great article was her interview with a neurologist from New York named, Dr. Sethi, found here. She has many excellent articles, one called, Hypochondriacs R Us where she goes over some Doubting Thomases of her own, it may help you with yours.

I'm sure some of the experts will help you, I just thought I'd mention these. There is an unbelievable amount of help here.
