Q: My face is tingling

Hi, I need just some opinions. First of all, I am in limbo world.  My next MRI is in February. About 4 days ago, my nose began tingling (just the tip of my nose). The tingling has now spread to my entire nose, my upper lip and going down to the right chin.  Also, the tingling is climbing up to my forehead.  Yesterday, I had a some dizziness and felt like I was "falling" to the left as I was walking.  My right hand is also a bit tingling.  I've had these symptoms sporatically in the last 12 months, but this time the tingling on my face seems "different" and much more noticible.  Any opinions?

Also, thank you all for responding to my previous questions. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and may the new year bring more answers and new/better medications for MS.  Linda

Hi Linda,

I've been wondering how you are doing.  New and different tingling, huh?  Sounds like it's worth a call to the neurologist.  He/she may or may not recommend moving the MRI up, but they might want to see you sooner rather than later.

Hang in there Lady, hopefully answers are coming soon (but I do remember us saying that last spring too, sigh).  Being in limbo is absolutely NO FUN.

I hope that you have a great Christmas and New Year's!!

Thank you, Lisa, for responding. I have been extremely tired lately. But a new symptom has appeared (I guess it's a symptom), the muscles in the back of my leg (especially right) have been extremely tight and stiff.  I don't know why. It's getting hard to walk properly.  However, the numbness has since eased up quite a bit, but is still there, just not as bad.  So strange.  Anyway, thanks for the response and I will be seeing my neuro in January or February.  Take care and happy new year.  Linda

I would say unequivocally-- DO NOT WAIT UNTIL FEB for your next MRI. This will at least give you an idea of what you are dealing with. DON'T WAIT!

Hi Linda just saw this and also checking in from ois crawling on the side my head too.  I kept putting my hand there when it first started happening and even asked hubby if he saw anything. most recently it's been an ear thing again.  Where one ear will feel like I've got a seashell over it - it doesn't last long but when it happens i feel lightheaded and dizzy(ier) that usual! I am going in feb as well for MRI.  Things just come and go for me and i have a tough time differentiaing what's possibly ms or what's not. Just wanted to check in and say i've had it too and wondering how you're doing...

I take vitamins for anxiety and hypoglycemia, including Choline and Creatine.  During a recent stressful period, I noticed the tip of my nose tingling as if someone were rubbing velvet against it.  I looked up this symptom and found some site that said that when the ratio of Choline and Creatine is too high compared with Glutamate, you can have that.  So, I stopped those two vitamins and started eating more avocados (which are a good source of glutamate) and the tingling went away.  I permanently stopped taking Creatine, but I still occasionally take Choline for my anxiety and memory.  For a while, though, every time I would take Choline, the funny feeling in my nose would come back, so I had to take quite a long break.  I still get tingling or pain in different areas of my body, but not the annoying nose tingling.

I assume that you're not taking Choline or Creatine, but you're body might naturally be a little off in that direction.  I would take fish oil every day and eat lots of avocados (to protect your neurons) AND exercise to get that tension out.  As hokey as it sounds, I feel like my tingling and pain comes from extra tension/energy floating around in my brain and/or body.  You have to get that energy out or it will damage your body.  I feel like serious diseases like Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis don't have to happen if the body can be redirected when it's in the early stages of imbalance.  I hope you get better soon, if you haven't already.
