Hey Cinda

Urinary problems are definitely no fun!  The thing I want to mention first off is that sometimes MS is not always the culprit.  I had a problem like you are describing and the first thing to come to mind was that  probably MS was causing it.  It turns out that  it wasn't my MS causing my extreme grief, but an ovarian cyst which was pushing upon my bladder.  So it is good to rule out other reasons for such a symptom.

It is true, however, that one of the most common MS symptoms is some sort of urinary problem including anything from experiencing incontinence to having a hyperactive bladder.  And any of these issues can lead to getting a urinary tract infection.

Health Central offers this article about bladder dysfuction and how this is typically treated.

Your best bet is to see your doctor or gynecologist pronto to investigate why you are having this particular symptom.  And most likely you have surely done this by now as you had asked this question a couple of months ago.  Smile  But perhaps in my attempt to answer your question, someone else having a similar problem may be interested in the information given.

Thank you for your question and I hope you come back to tell us how things are going for you.

Cinda,  This is what I do and it works.  To prevent infection in the bladder (as a result of improper emptying of the bladder because of MS) take a Bromalaine tablet (avail in health food store) as a digestive aid with your meal.  Make sure it doesn't contain sorbitol (as this converts to fructose and causes bloating - fructose is not synthesized by the body, bad for you).  I read that any excess bacteria will bind to the bromalaine and be excreted - instead of latching onto your bladder wall and causing irritation or infection and feelings of urgency.  Also, if you do get a bladder infection or close to one, take vitamin c powder and water, stir and drink.  This is effective as well.  One more thing I do is keep some Cystex tablets on hand in case I start to feel like an infection is coming on (feelings of urgency) and I'm not at home with other remedies.  This tablet has an antibacterial in it and also ingredients to soothe the bladder.  Pass this info on to others as it has taken me many years to come to these conclusions.
