Hi Don,

Yes, SoluMedrol is often used as an intravenous (IV) treatment to help speed the recovery from periodic MS relapses.  SoluMedrol is a corticosteroid which serves to reduce inflammation in the central nervous system and helps to close the blood-brain-barrier.  Intravenous SoluMedrol (IVSM) is preferably not used often and only in an acute major relapse.  It is usually administered as a 3-day or 5-day round of treatment.  But if a patient is requiring too many rounds of IVSM (intravenous solumedrol) on a regular basis, then the neurologist might suggest using Pulse Therapy which is a 1-day treatment given once a month in an attempt to limit ongoing inflammation.

Personally, I have a love-hate relationship with SoluMedrol.  I hate the experience and the side-effects, but I love how it quickens recovery from a major relapse.

Good luck.

Yes, solu-medrol is sometimes used for MS. I have been given this when I am having and ms attack. It is a steroid given intravenously to reduce the inflammation from the ms attack. I, personally have had it many times, and it does reduce the amount of damage that can be done during an ms attack. If you, or a friend is going to be having this treatment, I wish you all the best. deb Reply
