Q: What Are The Long Term Effects Of Multiple Sclerosis?

I had optic neuritis at age 18 and again at age 43 and then a six month bout with virtigo in1959. Now I feel tired all the time and seem at times to have trouble with my balance. I'm 78. Are my symptoms long term effects of MS?

Hi Robert,

Wow, you have lived with MS for many years and it sounds like the disease has been relatively quiet for you.  That's fantastic.

At the age of 78, my guess is that there would be many more causes of your fatigue and lack of balance than MS.  Talk to your doctor about your concerns.  It seems unlike that these symptoms are long-term MS effects.  But I am not a medical professional and do have medical advice to give.

Good luck.
