Q: Ex-pat looking for insurance in US for pre-existing MS diagnosed in France.

I am an American living currently in France and was diagnosed 2 years ago with MS. I will be moving back to the US next summer and don't even know where to start looking for insurance. As you know my interferon treatments cannot be interrupted. Any ideas?

Hi Dana,

Big changes are being made in health insurance options in the US.  Some have already been put into effect and some will take effect in 2014.  Your options are still dependent upon where you live and any potential insurance offered by your employer.

To get started, go to http://www.healthcare.gov/ to search your current options.  Be sure to apply to the drug company's prescription assistance program for help.  Details are usually offered on each drug's respective website.

Before you move, perhaps you could refill as much of your medications as possible in order to carry you through as you navigate the insurance maze after moving.

Good luck,

Lisa
