Q: I am having bladder problems and am wondering if that means the MS is getting worse.

I have had MS for 5 years and have been doing really well. I have been on Avonex for most of that time.I am starting to have bladder problems and am wondering if this means the MS is getting worse or if the Avonex is not working as weel anymore

Hi Teresa,

That's great to hear that you've been doing so well for the past five years.  Good for you.

There could be a number of causes for increased bladder problems.  I'll just throw out a few ideas.

1) Do you have a urinary tract infection?  This could cause problems.

2) Do you drink a lot of diet sodas?  These can irritate the bladder and cause urgency.

3) Do you think that you are experiencing a relapse?  Perhaps a round of steroids is in order.

4) Have you talked to your neurologist?  This is usually the best way to get an opinion on YOUR situation.  It might not be that Avonex has stopped working, there may be something else going on.

Please let us know what the doctor says and I hope that you feel better soon.

Hi Teresa:

I would make a little visit to your neurologist and be reevaluated.  Discuss your symptoms and bladder issues.
