The ms hug

there are tiny muscles between each rib, called intercostal muscles which basically hold the ribs together, but also give the ribcage some flexibility, its when the muscles go into spasm that we get the ms hug,a friendly description of an extremely uncomfortable and often painful symptom.

Personal description of how it feels

it feels as if i'm wearing a very tight rubber band which stretches from under my arms to below the waistline, the band gets tighter until it becomes difficult to breath at first,i thought that i broken ribs,

I hope this helps out my friend

I get the "hug", too, and it can be extremely painful. I've taken most of the muscle relaxers on the market with little effect although Soma seemed to be better than most of the others. My neuro gave me some samples of Zanaflex which is an anti-spasm and it has worked very well. When I feel the hug coming on I take 2 and so far it seems to work in eliminating the spasm within hours.
