Q: If you have MS and you cannot get MRI's due to a number of problems

If you have MS and MRI's are a problem--whether that problem are metal implants (on the list of objects preventing a scan), oversized beyond the capacity of the most "open" scanner (including the Fonar upright MRI), extreme claustrophobia (and warned against pill and IV sedation to any degree due to heart issues), what imaging or testing options are available for the patient?

Hi GF,

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with having an MRI.  This is an issue I am not familiar with, so my only suggestion would be to speak to your neurologist about it.  Your MS specialist would be the best person to speak to, and I highly recommend doing so. When I was diagnosed 25 years ago doctors weren't using MRI's, so they used CAT Scans and lumbar punctures.  I am sure by now there must be more and better methods that doctors now use on their patients.

Good luck and please let us know how you are doing.

Best,

Cathy
