I am a 36 year old doctor, suffering from MS for the past 10 years. Absolutely normal for the first 8 years. Now I am ataxic, with a neurogenic bladder. Still, i am able to practice surgery. I am on Avonex for the last 2 years without any relapse during these 2 years. I don't know how long can I continue practicing surgery. Can anyone throw somelight on people like me? I have a wife and three kids to support.

Hi Reddy, so sorry to hear that the monster is starting to affect your livelyhood, it sucks the big one!Surprised I know first hand.  Maye you could be a consultant if the ataxia gets to bad, as for the bladder I take Detro LAl, I know that you know all about all of those meds, but they really do help.  I also wear Poise pads, I am sure that they have some type of protective gear for men also.  It is not so bad, and you will not be able to tell, I promise.  Hey for those of us with MS it is just a fact of life, and one you just get use to.  Drinking water is best, I love juice,100% juice  but it gives the urine a punjuent ordor.  Water works best.  I use Betaserone, love it have been on it for 4 years no new leasions, only 1 relasape in four years, I think that is pretty good, if I must say so myselfWink  Hope this helps.  sherry/smomdukesKiss

Thanks for the input. I use adult diapers and do not have to hurry for the loo. Anyway, because of my ataxia I can't run either. Most of the days I change the diapers at the end of the day without soiling them. But diaper gives me some assurance.I am using oxybutinine with good result.

Sounds like you got everything under cntrol, glad to hear it.  Do not feel bad about not being able to run, I have not been able to run in about five years, but he I can swing a mean caneWink.  Good luck, everything will work out fine, for all of us MR's around the wolrld it always does.  He puts no more on us than we can bear, so I always say, we who have MS are some of the strongest people in the world, because MS is a mess!
