Hi Heather,

 

Thank you for your question.  Keep in mind that I'm simply a patient just as yourself, but here is some of what I've learned about Avonex and the other Interferons.

 

As every drug carries risk, Avonex is not unique.  One of the major side-effects seen deals with liver function.  But I'm told that problems in this area are usually seen earlier on in treatment rather than after long-term use.  And when stopped promptly, the liver returns to normal (in most cases).

 

The best person to answer your concerns really is your neurologist or MS nurse.  They would be on top of the developments in disease treatments and medications.
