Q: Should I be worried?

I was diagnosed with MS in Sept 2007.  My diagnosis was reached by my description of symptoms and an MRI. Since my diagnosis I have lost my insurance coverage.  I have symptoms that are not necessarily MS.  I have chronic chest pressure on my left side. Heart palpitations and flutters. Intermittent low grade fever and swollen lymph glands throughout my whole body.  Could I have been misdiagnosed? May I have another health condition on top of MS? What should I do?  The chest pain contributes to my fatigue. I also have lost weight without any change in diet or exercise.  And I have pain on my left where my spleen is located. I'm worried.

Please do not delay in making an appointment with your doctor.

Your diagnosis of MS may be correct, but it does not mean that you don't have another condition as well. MS is no protection against other health concerns.

I don't know what services you may have in your community for people without health coverage, but you should start making some calls immediately, so that you are prepared.

In the event of serious symptoms, I wouldn't hesitate to go to the ER.

Please update us and let us know how you are doing.

Does anyone have suggestions for people with no insurance?

I agree with Mandy on this.  When you have so many symptoms going on all at once, it's important to be seen.

To locate free clinics in your area, try searching on this Virginia site.  Perhaps there is a place where you could go to be checked out by a physician, and even more importantly, you may be able to gain access to some prescription medications.

Another program for medications (generics only) which I've found to be easy to use is RX Outreach.  You don't even have to submit proof of income to participate.

These might be useful resources for future needs.
