How do you relieve pain in your lower legs from MS?

My lower legs huts very badly.  It feels like it is radiating right around my ankles to the middle part of my shin and calves and my entire foot. It hurts when I walk and rest.  I have taken a pain reliever for it with no help.  What are some other things I can do to relieve the pain?

HI Theresa - have you considered any Alernative Medicine approaches?  Take a look at a post from our expert Dr. Kantor, Complementary and Alternative Medicine.  As well maybe our Health Tip: Living with MS might help ( see exercise and therapy info).

Take care and all the best, sue

Hi Theresa,

I just read your recent Sharepost, was looking at your profile, and saw that you had been asking some questions.  I'm relatively new here so I hadn't seen your questions before.

It is very possible that the pain your are describing would not necessarily be helped with traditional pain medication.  I experience nerve pain which is relieved by Neurontin.  I also experience spasticity (extreme tightness) in my feet and calves which is relieved by Baclofen.

I don't know if you've talked to your neurologist about what you're experiencing right now.  Sometimes even a call to the office can provide you an opportunity to tell him/her what's going on and help decide whether it's time to come in or not.

I certainly hope that you find relief from the pain soon.  Hang in there.

Lisa
