Hi butterbean,   I wrote a post about MS lesions a few years ago.  In MS, lesions are areas of the central nervous system (brain, spine, or optic nerves) which are inflammed or demyelinated.  Myelin is the fatty coating which protects nerves and helps to transmit nerve impulses.  When the myelin is damaged, lesions occur which can be visualized on MRI scans.  It is important to know that MS is not the only condition which can cause lesions in the brain or on the spine.  Lisa
