Q: Why does MS make me constantly want to keep moving my limbs/trunk?

I have a very hard time sittting still. Even if  I'm fatigued, sleepy, whatever, I have this constant urge to move around.

I've started sleeping on the couch so that I wouldn't cause my Husband to lose sleep.

Does anyone else go through this?

Hi Meg,

I love your photo!!  I also love cats.  :)

It is possible to have restless leg syndrome along side MS.  There are meds which are very effective in lessening the need to move so much.  Bring it up with your neurologist the next time you're in.  Hopefully you can find some relief.

I too have the urge to move.  I have never had it prior to being diagnosed.  My symptoms don't sound as major as yours but I feel like someone with attention deficit disorder.  I want to constantly tap my heel when I am sitting or move some how.  I am not sure if you are on any disease modifying drugs.  I am on Avonex and haven't looked to see if that may be a side affect.

Hi all, I am not a doctor, but I have years and years of experience with Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS).  I've had it since I was a teen and the older I get the worse it gets.  It's now in my arms and neck.  I take Mirapex (.05 x 3/day) and it really helps.  I suffered for years until a PA talked to me and diagnosed it as RLS.  Thank God for him.  So, ask you Neuro about Mirapex.  I also hear that MS and RLS may be linked.  Good luck.  Linda.
