Q: Is there to differentiate between symptoms caused by MS vs cervical spinal cord swelling

Diagnosed RR MS 2006. Flare Oct 2010 tx with IV steroids. Leg weakness and aching was primary sympton. MRI showed new lesions and the existing ones were slightly larger.Stopped Copaxone. Plan was to start another DMD after planned neck sx in Nov. C5-C6 posterior foraminotomy. Awoke in recovery room unable to move Right side. Postop MRI showed spinal cord swelling at operative site. While recovering from the spinal cord swelling, I was on large dose IV then oral steroids...as they were tapered to a low dose and then stopped I developed sensory issues on left side from trunk to bottom of my left foot. Pressure on skin results in sensation of warmth, and touch on skin results in uncomfortable sensation...what my Mom would call "flu skin" where even your clothes make your skin crawl at times. Reported symptom to neurosurgeon who did not want to resume steroids (neither did I), and as long as I could stand it, he will see me at next visit. Follow up neck MRI next week along with follow up Neuro visit as well. See neurosx in two weeks.
