Hi Leslie,
In addition to RRMS, I have rheumatoid arthritis (RA). I take oral methotrexate (25mg) once a week for the RA. How much it helps the MS, I'm not really sure. I also started using Rituxan for the RA, and afterwards my MS has gotten better.
Unfortunately, there are no approved treatments for primarily progressive MS. However, there have been some clinical trials investing possible treatment as well as current ongoing trials. You can read a review of treatments for progressive MS on UpToDate which is written for physicians.
Has your neurologist prescribed methotrexate for the MS?
Lisa
