I have the feeling of open wounds rubbing together when I run, and now when I walk my normal pace.
It started in 2006 I was training for the Chicago marathon. I got in the shower after a run. When the hot water hit me I became paralyzed on my left side for at least 5 minutes. That happened a few more times. And onced it happend on my first 18 mile run. The feeling of open wounds rubbing together and not being able to move started than. I did do the marathon. I went on a weeks course of steriods. Which did not help. The Doctor gave me something for the feeling (I do not remember what it was) but it only worked for a little while. It would wear off to soon. I took it just before I started the run, and I forgot to bring some along on the run. I have not been paralyzed seen the beginning of this I was able to finish the run.
I do not run anymore. My pace for walking is a little faster than everybody elses. So when I start to walk at my normal pace that is when I get the feeling of open wounds rubbing together it does not effect my whole left side any more just my legs and mainly the left leg.
I have a doctor who whats to give me steroids for every thing. I have found that steriods do not work for me.
Hi Margaret
Do you feel this pain all the time? Does it ever go away? Just going out on a limb here...could it have anything to do with clothing or even allergies? Probably not but it might be good to rule out other things it could be.
Know that I am not a doctor...I am just another MS patient. But this sounds like MS nerve pain to me. Is it a burning feeling? Do you feel it happens because of the skin to skin contact?
Here is an article I found about MS and pain which may be helpful.
It seems the literature suggests neurotin and tegretol to help with such a symptom but please do ask your doctor or get a second opinion on what could be causing this.
I will also send you this link about peripheral neuropathy which has different causes than MS.
I sure hope you get to the bottom of this. I am sorry you have to endure such pain. Please let us know what happens with you. Thank you for your question!
