Q: Fainting/passing out is this a relapes? over doing it? or?

Last night, i was feeling very tired and started feeling really ill, hot, wozzy
,faint, my hubby took me to the bed and put the fan on me ,The next i knew i was
on the floor with my hubby holding me and my daughter rushing off to get a cold
flannel which my hubby put on my head, face legs ect, After being on the floor
for a while ,i just wanted to go to bed. but on getting me up, i found i had wet
myself.I had to get to the bathroom with help as i had to wash myself and change
my nightie. Could this be cos i over done it? Or a relapes?
Can anyone help me on this one? Have you had it? Love Jan x

Hi Jan,

Of course I do not know because I am not a doctor.

From your description, it sounds as if you may have been overheated or extra tired.  It is a relapse when it lasts at least 24 hours. I hope you slept well after all of the unpleasant activity.

Wasn't it nice the way your husband and daughter were able to help.  Families are good like that sometimes.

If it happens again, or lasts a long time, call your doctor.  There may be some treatment to help you feel better.

Good luck.

My sister has MS and has experienced this same thing many times. She has had it happen so many times she can feel it coming on before she faints. She lies down on cool tile flooring (in her bathroom) and runs a cold, wet cloth on her body. Her daughter has helped her when she's around. My sister talked to her MS doc about it and he had no idea. In fact, no doctor she has talked to could explain these episodes. We think it is directly related to her MS, but can't get anyone to say that.

It's another one of those unexplainable things that seems to happen with MS.

Good luck with this.

Thank you Spinner.  It does sound like MS, with the heat and the weakness, then it's better after being cooled. I have heard other people talk about it, but the only solution seems to be the cool cloth.

I'm sorry the doctor had no suggestions. There are jackets made specifically for cooling, but I have no idea if they work.  I think they are expensive. I guess we need access to a cool cloth. It's surprising how much difference cool feet or a forehead make.

When your sister experiences this, does it follow something consistent like temperature or exercise? I'm wondering if it is random or has a trigger.

Anyway, thanks for your comment. As always, it is nice to hear about the family helping.

Hey Vicki,

My sister has no way of knowing when it's going to come on. At first we though it might be related to being tired, but it has happened when she's rested too. It just seems to come on -- cooling off makes it better. Sometimes she's completely done in when it's over and has to lie down, other times she can go about her business as if it didn't happen. It's weird.

Jackets? I guess that means more than a few people experience this. That's why it baffles me that there seems to be no answer for why. Well, I am just grateful that it doesn't seem to mean the MS is progressing. We tease her and call her our "fainter." haha.

Hello Spinner, I am the Lady who first wrote about fainting, and it was so good to hear i am not alone with this! My Ms nurse thought i had a unrine infection "but my results came back normal.I am still not feeling good yet with my floating feelings.

I have suffered with dizzyness/vertigo for the last couple of years but sometimes its worse than others, I have always had eye problems "eye shake/jump fuzzy sight, double vision" and i wonder if the damage is in that part of the brain and those syptoms are why we

faint ect??? does your sister have problems with vision?

Take Care Jan

Hi Jan!

My sister gets this weird eye thing -- she can't look at anything or raise her eyes. Her eyes hurt and part of the field of vision is gone. And she has talked about the eye shake/jump and fuzzy sight too. She's down for the whole day when that happens. I don't know if it's related to the fainting, but it almost makes sense. The thing that I have seen with my sister's MS is that nothing really makes sense. It just happens out of the blue and we wait to see if it happens again ... and then if it does, we chalk it up to MS. Unless it's something that is really odd, then I nag her (in love) until she promises to call her doc! Smile He almost always tells her it's probably part of the MS. (And he's a specialist!) Scary.

Thanks for writing back.
