Q: Melatonin and primary progressive MS - advice?

How do you feel about melatonin for those suffering from primary-progressive MS? I find that it helps me sleep and my stress levels have been reduced. Stress REALLY has a negative impact on my MS symptoms.

Hi tweener,

I do not have any experience with either taking melatonin or having PPMS.  Since it helps you perhaps you could share more information about that for others who are curious.  I do agree that keeping stress down seems to be a very important way to keep things on a even keel.

My neurologist at Vanderbilt said that it was okay to use and that he regularly prescribes it. Despite the warnings on the label saying that people with auto-immune disorders (MS is one) shouldn't use it, my guess is that if you have PPMS it's so treatment-resistant that "if it helps you sleep, why not, it won't make things worse." I am a medical doctor. I was diagnosed as having multiple sclerosis in 1995 when i was doing my internship. Since 1999 I started taking herbal treatment. MRI taken in 2001 showed total healing of lesions of spinal column. MRI taken in 2007 shows 70% healing of the brain lesions.

DR. RUDY CARTWRIGHT HIGHLY RECOMMENDS MELATONIN DUE TO THE FACT THAT IT HELPS THE ADRENAL GLAND IN THE PRODUCTION OF PROLACTIN WHICH HELPS IN REPAIRING MYLEN.  GOOGLE DR. RUDY CARTWRIGHT...HE'S AN EXPERT ON MS & IS SHARING HIS KNOWLEDGE.
