I have MS and only recently been experiencing chronic pain in neck, both hips, bttocks
Can this kind of pain be associated with MS? My recent MRI shows no active lesions.
thanks
Hi Sandy,
Sorry you've been having pain. Could be the result of other condition(s). Though, it also could be MS related. Make sure there is nothing else going on, then try exercising. Espescially stretching. Maybe some yoga, to keep muscles and joints loose and flexible. Also helps keep the circulation going. Drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated and prevent cramping. Maintain good posture and sit in chairs that offer you the support and position to keep these areas free from strain. And make sure you are getting the proper nutrition and supplements to keep your body functioning properly. Stay away from stress, as this can cause muscle tension, espescially in your neck. Also, if you're having trouble with balance, Make sure you've got the right walking device, because the strain of trying to maintain your balance, goes right to your neck and shoulders. Maintain a strong core, as this will help alleviate balance issues and compensation issues from one part of your body to the next. Hope this helps.

Hey Sandy
I know you asked this question months ago but thought I would take a stab at answering this.
It could be caused by other things but I do want to say yes...this kind of pain can be caused by MS. Here is an interesting thread by many others who have experienced this type of pain. One explanation given on that particular forum makes sense to me. If you are compensating in any way by over using some muscles or favoring some muscles or movements over others...the result can be pain.
If you haven't by now...I would ask your doctor how to deal with this particular symptom.
